What’s It Like?

The Toden Arakawa Line, operated by Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation, is one of the few remaining streetcar lines in Tokyo. Stretching for approximately 12.2 kilometers, it connects the areas of Minowabashi in Arakawa Ward to Waseda in Shinjuku Ward. This charming tram line offers a nostalgic journey through some of Tokyo’s quieter, traditional neighborhoods, providing a unique glimpse into the city’s past. Passengers can enjoy scenic views, including parks, temples, and quaint residential streets, making it a favorite among both locals and tourists. The Toden Arakawa Line serves as a convenient and picturesque mode of transportation, preserving a slice of Tokyo’s historical charm amidst its modern landscape.

The Toden Arakawa Line, also known as the “Sakura Tram,” is adorned with numerous cherry blossom trees along its route. Additionally, roses embellish the scenery just as beautifully as the sakura. With a total of 30 stations, each surrounding area exudes its own unique neighborhood atmosphere. The fare is a flat rate of 170 yen per section, but purchasing a One-Day Pass offers great value at just 400 yen, allowing unlimited rides throughout the day.
