To educate the public, the Tokyo Fire Department operates state-of-the-art Life Safety Learning Centers (Bosai-kan) that offer hands-on disaster simulations. Recently, these facilities have gained significant international attention from travelers wanting to experience Japan’s world-leading safety protocols firsthand.

Tour Locations & Highlights
Admission to the centers is free. You can choose between two main locations in Tokyo, each offering a distinct combination of immersive simulations (total session duration: approximately 2 hours):
1. Honjo Life Safety Learning Center
- Key Simulations: Earthquake Simulation, Smoke Escape, Rainstorm/Typhoon Experience, and Flood Safety.
- Best for: Visitors who want to feel the power of extreme weather and seismic forces.
2. Ikebukuro Life Safety Learning Center
- Key Simulations: Earthquake Simulation, Smoke Escape, and Fire Extinguisher Training.
- Best for: Visitors interested in active firefighting techniques alongside earthquake awareness.
How It Works
- Request Your Date & Location: Select your preferred date, time slot, and chosen venue (Honjo or Ikebukuro), then contact me with your details.
- Reservation & Confirmation: I will secure the official advance reservations for you. Please note that your preferred time slot may not always be available. Once confirmed, I’ll send you the meeting time and exact pickup location.
- Meet & Experience: On the day of the tour, we meet at the designated station and head to the center together. I will join you through all the interactive simulations, providing real-time English guidance and context.
- Wrap-up: The experience concludes right after the 2-hour session finishes.

Important Rules & Clothing Requirements
To participate safely in the simulations, please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Attire: Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement.
- Footwear: Flat, closed-toe walking shoes or sneakers are required. Sandals, flip-flops, and high heels are strictly prohibited by the facility for safety reasons.
