Japan has updated its tax-free shopping system for foreign visitors to a “Refund System” (Post-Refund).
- At the Store: You will now pay the full price including 10% consumption tax when making purchases.
- At the Airport: Scan your passport and receipt at the customs kiosk before departure. Once confirmed, the consumption tax will be refunded to your credit card or preferred payment method.
- New Rules: The 500,000 yen daily cap on consumable items (cosmetics, snacks, etc.) has been removed, and items no longer need to be sealed in special plastic bags.
Tip: Please allow extra time at the airport for customs verification before checking in your luggage!
